Pre-shipment Surveys

Our surveyors inspect cargo and/or the compartment where it will be stowed before loading on behalf of Shipowners and their P&I clubs to determine the exact condition of the cargo before loading; make sure that the exact condition of the cargo on loading is specified on the bills of lading, and that due care has been taken in preparing the ship for the cargo.

Warranty Surveys

Warranty surveys are necessary for the purposes of protecting the Underwriters' interests by ensuring that the shippers and carriers observe good practice, as stipulated by industry standards. Shippers may call for surveys simply to protect their products from poor stowage, or to provide evidence of quality of the cargo at export.

Pre-sale Inspections and
Vessel Condition Surveys

These two types of inspections are similar in form though distinct in purpose. The purpose of the Pre-sale Inspection is to see that the condition of the vessel meets with its sale specification, to quantify any work which must be done to bring the vessel up to specification, or to convert it to the new owner's requirements, to identify any latent or specific defects which would affect operation, and to assess if the vessel will be fit for the required purpose.

The condition survey is carried out usually at the request of the P&I club, sometimes for bank or mortgagee or other party with an interest in the vessel. Its purpose is simply to provide a factual picture of the actual condition of the vessel at the time of inspection. On the basis of the inspection the P&I club may refuse entry to an owner, or require certain work to be done.

Location Moves and
Securing for Heavy Weather of
Offshore Drilling Platforms

Our surveyors have experience with both Self-Elevating and Semi-Submersible drilling platforms. The principal Marine surveyor is licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard as Offshore Installation Manager, On-site and Underway, Unrestricted. Having been contracted on many occasions as Underwriter's Representative aboard a wide variety of Drilling Platforms, he is familiar with safety standards required in drilling and transit modes of operation.

Salvage Operations

Our personnel have participated in salvage operations on behalf of Owner's, Hull Underwriter's and P&I along the coasts of Mexico, Venezuela, and the Gulf of Mexico. Our principal Marine Surveyor is an approved sub-contractor for The Salvage Association and Rush Johnson and Associates.

Draft Surveys

Draft Surveys determine the weight of the cargo aboard the vessel. In today's market and with today's freight rates this is now more important than ever for all concerned parties. A proper draft survey can save substantial costs for the interested party; not to mention costly delays which inevitably result from quantity disputes. We offer qualified personnel to aid in determining the exact weight of the cargo and avoid the resultant delays and disputes.

Arbiters

Our principal Marine Surveyor has been appointed as Technical Arbiter on various cases involving PEMEX and their contractors ranging from bulk liquid contamination to collision arbitrage. Well known accords throughout the shipping industry are recognizing the need for mediation and arbitration. We are happy to provide our technical expertise in mediating between parties or acting as arbiters to come to a final resolution of the dispute.

Trip in Tow Surveys
and Certificates

There are four reasons why tow approval surveys are done. These are warranties, safety, pollution prevention and success of project. All tow approvals look at the same things: the tug, the connection, the route, and the tow itself but the criteria applied may be very different.

A warranty survey is the most common form of tow approval. Warranty surveys arise from the desire of underwriters to limit their exposure to risk. Faced with insuring a tow project, the underwriter may feel happier if he knows that a competent surveyor has physically inspected the tug and tow and approved the arrangements. Our Marine Surveyors have attended a wide variety of Load-outs on behalf of the Underwriter. We continue to offer this essential service 24 hours/day; 365 days/year.

Port Captain/Superintendency-Load
Discharge/Shipyard

As part of our consultant network, we offer skilled Port Captains to aid the shipping interests in speeding up the Load/Discharge process and thus reduce operating costs directly. This service applies from Arrival to Departure. We also offer attendance during repair periods. This service requires intimate knowledge of both the job to be accomplished and the local knowledge to accomplish it in good time. We have personnel available that can communicate with the contractor and with local resources in order to facilitate the work to be done.
